Japan is preparing to ease entry restrictions for foreign students and technical intern trainees. On 17 February, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that COVID-19 measures would be relaxed starting 1 March.

While general tourism remains suspended, entry will be allowed for business travelers, international students, and technical interns. The standard 7-day quarantine may be shortened under specific conditions, and travelers from non-designated risk countries who have received three vaccine doses may be exempt from quarantine.

Daily entry capacity will increase from 3,500 to 5,000 persons.
